MAR Qualifications, applicants are encouraged to discuss their maritime career path with staff prior to their enrolment to determine qualification suitability.

Once an applicant decides to enrol they will be asked to complete a Student Enrolment form and send together with a copy of  photo ID.
Pay the enrolment fee by direct deposit or credit card over the phone (we will issue an invoice and receipt).The enrolment form includes  an option to identify any learner support needs and  to disclose any  disability, impairment or long term medical condition which may affect studies. Once enrolled applicants are asked to complete a Maritime Summary of Experience which includes the Learning Language and Literacy test.

Enrol any time to prepare for the theory and practical assessments
Enrolment period – up to 12 months to achieve your qualification. Complete your assignments or workbooks in your own time and send them in for marking, attend the theory and practical class (Monday to Friday) as advertised

Entry requirements
To be eligible for a Master less than 45 metres near coastal certificate you must: Be at least 16 years old on the certificate issue date.
Hold either a Master less than 24 metres near coastal or Mate less than 80 metres near coastal certificate of competency.
Meet medical, eyesight, sea service and course requirements.

MARA024 Manage vessel stability
MARB046  Plan and supervise routine maintenance on a vessel up to 80 metres
MARC047 Manage a propulsion unit using appropriate engine systems and support services
MARC048 Monitor and manage vessel operations
MARC051 Operate deck machinery and steering gear on a vessel up to 80 metres
MARF010 Enter and work in Confined Space
MARG007 Manage a small crew
MARH019 Forecast weather and oceanographic conditions
MARK009 Manoeuvre a vessel up to 80 metres
MARN004 Manage seaworthiness of a vessel up to 80 metres

Outcome

Master <45 m NC (a) command a commercial vessel <45 m long in the EEZ(
b) act:
(i) as a coxswain if he or she holds a Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 to
3 or Engineer Class 3 certificate; or
(ii) in any other deck capacity
Note A coxswain must have training in engineering while a
Master <45 m NC does not.
(c) be the Master of a vessel <80 m long in inshore waters
(d) act as a Mate or watchkeeper on a vessel <80 m long in the EEZ
2.11 Mate <80 m NC be second in command of a commercial vessel <80 m operating in the EEZ
2.12 Master <80 m NC (a) command a commercial vessel <80m long in the EEZ
(b) act:
