The Whitsunday Maritime Training Centre (WMTC) is a registered training organisation based at the Whitsunday Sailing Club in Airlie Beach, Queensland.  Located right on the water overlooking Pioneer Bay and the beautiful Whitsunday islands, WMTC offers a range of training courses for people interested in learning the basics, through to improving skills or gaining qualifications for a career in the maritime industry.  From a Recreational Queensland Boat Licence through to Master <45 metres Near Coastal Certification, the WMTC has the facilities, expertise and flexible training programs to meet your needs. Your Trainers
We employ experienced and qualified maritime training personnel to design, run and assist you with completing your course requirements.  Trainers are available to negotiate trainee and apprenticeship programs and will work with you to accommodate your school or workplace requirements. Many courses are flexible and trainers will assist you to achieve successful outcomes and timeframes around your other work and personal commitments.

Apprenticeships/Traineeships

The WMTC is a User Choice Skills Assure Supplier.

The User Choice program provides a public funding contribution towards the cost of training and assessment services for eligible Queensland apprentices and trainees.

The program recognises that employment-based training aligned to skills shortages is a critical priority for the Queensland Government. It aims to provide funding aligned to the skills needs of industry and respond to changing government priorities.

User Choice Traineeships are available for:

  • Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal)
  • Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Master up to 24 m Near Coastal)

Traineeships combine practical work with structured training and provide employees with a nationally recognised qualification and practical hands on skills.  As an employer, Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships provide flexible and inexpensive solution to all your employment and training needs.  Traineeships are available to full-time and part time employees.  Training plans can also be negotiated for school-based apprentices and trainees. Our trainers are available to assist the trainee and liaise with the employer throughout the duration of the traineeship.

Group Training

Group trainingThe WMTC can accommodate group training sessions for schools, universities, businesses or government departments. Flexible times and locations are available depending on the particular facilities and course requirements. Courses that are particularly suitable for group training include Recreational Boat Licence, Marine Radio, Provide First Aid and Shipboard Safety. Please contact the WMTC for more specific details.
