Our Commitment to Maritime in The Whitsundays
Whitsunday Maritime Training Centre (WMTC) was registered as a training organisation in 1998 and is the commercial maritime division of the Whitsunday Sailing Club.
We are adjacent to Airlie Beach foreshore parkland, Port of Airlie Marina, and overlooking Pioneer Bay. Our waterfront location is a popular destination for Whitsunday maritime services.
Whitsunday Sailing Club & Training Facilities
Our newly completed training centre features a range of classrooms designed to support comprehensive learning.
For hands-on practical training, it’s just a short walk from our classrooms to the dinghy basin pontoon, where you can board our recreational boat licence training vessel, Safety 1. For commercial qualifications we’re conveniently located near the Port of Airlie marina, providing easy access to our commercial training vessel, AJ Coyne.
When it's time for a break, step out of the classroom to our undercover area or to the Whitsunday Sailing Club bistro, where you can enjoy lunch, snacks, and refreshments while taking in the views from the balcony.
Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays
The Whitsunday Maritime Training Centre enjoys a prime waterfront location, situated at Whitsunday Sailing Club and adjacent to the Airlie Beach foreshore and the Port of Airlie Marina.
Airlie Beach, a small coastal town, is nestled at the base of the Park and State Forest, overlooking Pioneer Bay and the Whitsunday Islands.
Renowned for its appeal as a tourist destination, Airlie Beach is a hub for marine tourism. The area features a vibrant marine industry with over 30 vessels offering diverse sailing experiences that highlight the beauty of the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. This rich marine ecosystem is home to more than 1,500 species of fish, over 400 types of coral, and a variety of other marine animals, including sea turtles and humpback whales.
Given its numerous marine tourism attractions, the sector plays a crucial role in the local economy, employing many as Masters and crew members on vessels.
