What To Bring
Day one - theory and visit to commercial vessel

Students will need to bring clothing to suit the flare demonstration and fire drill (long sleeves and long pants – non-flammable),hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
(Limited spare items are kept if students are unable to supply).

Qualification Description
MARF027 - Apply basic survival skills in the event of vessel abandonment
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to apply basic survival skills in the event of vessel abandonment.
MARF028 - Follow procedures to minimise and fight fires on board a vessel
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to apply defined policies and procedures when carrying out fire minimisation procedures and fighting a fire on board a vessel.
MARF029 - Meet work health and safety requirements
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to follow defined work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures to ensure the safety of self, others on board and the vessel.
MARF030 - Survive at sea using survival craft
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to survive at sea using survival craft. These units apply to people working in the maritime industry in a deck and or engine room capacity on vessels up to 80 m and with propulsion power <3000 kW in waters to the outer limits of the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). They could be working independently or as part of a vessel crew.

These units are one of the requirements to obtain Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) certification as a General-Purpose Hand NC, Coxswain Grade 2 NC, Coxswain Grade 1 NC, Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 NC, Master (Inland waters), Master <24 m NC, Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 NC, Master < 45 m NC and Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 NC.
The AMSA mandated practical assessment (AMPA) is a requirement for AMSA certification. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) mandated practical assessment (AMPA) will cover a range, but not all, of the requirements identified in the Performance Evidence and Knowledge Evidence.

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. Note: Must be able to swim for the practical water drills
All students studying nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training courses are required to have a Unique Student Identifier(USI).
