Overview
The LROCP qualification allows the operator to operate both the VHF marine radiotelephony equipment and the MF/HF marine telephony equipment.
The licence is applicable to operators of marine radios on vessels and at maritime coast stations, other than those solely using 27 MHz frequencies.

Independent Study Option
Study independently for your certificate examination we recommend that you obtain a current edition of the Marine Radio Operators Handbook. The examination questions are based on material contained in that handbook. It is recommended that you test your knowledge prior to the test using the revision questions
Once you have studied the handbook and feel that you are ready to be examined, contact us to book in a date for your examination. The examination consists of a 50 multi-choice question paper (duration 1 hour with a 70% pass mark) and a practical component.
During the practical component you will demonstrate that you meet the following requirements through a role play:
- demonstrate the ability to use a marine radio, turn on and off, adjust volume, power, background noise and set channel;
- demonstrate a Mayday call and message;
- demonstrate log in, routine call, message and log out;
- demonstrate an understanding of digital selective calling operating procedures and distress alert; and
- demonstrate setting the channel for dual watch.

What To Bring
Your theory examination is completed online in the classroom. – You must bring suitable device for your exam such as your mobile phone, tablet or laptop.
Enrolment
PLEASE NOTE: Participants will need to book and pay the course fee at least 48 hours prior to the course date to confirm the radio exam is booked in with the AMC Office of Communications.
